The practices in family counseling that my professor, Dr. Green, discussed on day one got me emotional because it was something my family desperately needed in the past. This information had come too late for my family. I want to provide the knowledge I have acquired in my higher education to families and individuals who struggled like my family. Addiction recovery research is also still so new, and we have many people to catch up to the information out there; a staggering 21% of people in America struggle with a substance use disorder. There is a need for more people like me to get into this area of the helping world so that we can reduce the frequency of those hurt by substance abuse. It is why I felt more of an urgent call to substance abuse disorder care. My current goal is to obtain a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential through the master's program at St. Edwards University.
