During my year in the position, we accomplished the goal of raising over $10,000 for our partner philanthropy the Huntsman Cancer Institute, restructured the chapters bylaws to better reflect the current views of the chapter and won the first Peterson Award in 5 years which is only given to distinguished Sigma Chi chapters.

Throughout my time as an undergraduate student, I designed, conducted and reported on several projects varying in scale and topic. These projects included the use of skills pertaining to: microscopy (SEM, bright field and dark field), Morphological Measurements, qPCR, Western Blot, Flow Cytometry, Spectophotometry and Organic Chemistry.

During my semester abroad I carried out smaller scale projects that gave me the opportunity to refine my field skills and report writing. I also had the opportunity to design, pitch and conduct a month-long project studying environmental practices of a local Australian county which culminated in a report and presentation for the government officials.

The primary responsibility of the philanthropy chairman is to ensure the organization and involvement of the chapters active members in philanthropic endeavors. Additionally, this position is responsible for assisting in the organization of Derby Days, the week-long philanthropy event put on yearly by the chapter.

During the two-week field research portion of a University of Washington master student's work, I assisted in collecting data from invasive Rusty Crayfish and habitat data from the John Day River. The majority of the work conducted was tissue sample and morphological data collection from live crayfish, macro-invertebrate collection and substrate collection that was categorized and stored for later analysis.
