Undertaken a ' year in industry' placement at Cummins in Huddersfield. Have had an excellent time developing my academic skills into industrial skills. Getting familiar with corporate structure and working within larger teams has benefitted me enormously.I was lucky to be able to take part in a variety of projects, being given real work. During the placement I had three roles; 2 in platform engineering and one in the materials lab.Medium duty platform; developing turbos for trucks, vans and commercial vehicles. Key skills/experiences:Time management development.Presenting InformationSupplier – Customer relationsData analysis – excel, minitab ect.Making work requests for tests and turbo builds/strips.Looking through meeting archives to determine business case for a particuar build option, and developing a possible verification plan.High Horsepower platform; developing turbos for large trucks (heavy haulage) gensets, marine and mining applications.Key skills/experiences:Dimensional Variation analysis.Failure analysis and ‘weak signals’ work.Design reviews - presenting design changes and gaining approval from senior engineers.Analysis of FEA results, feeding back to the analysis teams on analysis quality.Oversight of a prototype build; feeding back to design team on issues and mitigations.Materials Lab is an internal group that specialise in materials advice, analysis, and failure detection and analysis. They support other teams by completing reports on specific matters.Key skills/experiences:Peer to Peer communication.Tech reviews, presenting lab request results.work with external labs - multi-organisational collaboration.Lab work:Microscopy, chemical etching, NDT, failure analysis, using the SEM, workshop tools.Developing neural network understanding and project development.Creating a Work Instruction on using and developing the neural network.
