About Jacob (Dylan) Bruney
As an adolescent raised in rural North Carolina, I always had a strong desire to grow beyond my hometown and learn how the world actually worked. The field of mathematics fulfilled this desire by providing me a language to better understand the complexity of science. Curiosity and passion led me to pursue mathematics at UNC Chapel Hill under the guidance of Drs. Roberto Camassa and Richard Mclaughlin. So far, it has been an amazing journey. I have been challenged at every turn and have adapted by developing new methods of attacks and sharpening my own skills as I was led toward increasingly more complicated problems. Now as a fifth year doctoral candidate, I am exploring a multitude of phenomenon, the foremost of which is my doctoral research on aggregate-stratification interaction and how it relates to the carbon cycle of the ocean through a statistical and computational perspective. This research will provide insight into the complex systems that climate change is currently affecting so that we have the best information available to solve the most pressing global challenges of our time.
