Profile bio

About Jacob Feldmann

Currently pursuing my PhD in Neuroscience at West Virginia University, I am studying neuroimmunology in Dr. Aminata Coulibaly's lab. Here, I am elucidating the role of neutrophil JAK/STAT signaling in the progression of Alzheimer's Disease. Prior to this, I spent 2.5 years in Dr. Gordon Meares' lab (now at OSU), where we focused on neuroinflammation in the context of a Multiple Sclerosis mouse model, specifically investigating the role of astrocytic JAK/STAT signaling. My journey into neuroscience began during my undergraduate years at the College of William and Mary, where I was recruited to a Division 1 gymnastics team. It was during this time that my passion for neurodegenerative research was sparked, leading me to dedicate 3.5 years to an attention-based behavioral neuroscience lab (under Dr. Joshua Burk), where I ultimately defended my Honor's Thesis. After graduation, I transitioned to Massachusetts General Hospital, where I engaged in stem cell research within a catecholamine neurobiology-based lab under the guidance of Dr. Kwang-Soo Kim. We studied the effect of dopaminergic neuron transplantation and Parkinson's Disease (PD) outcomes in a mouse model of PD. Throughout these experiences, I have cultivated a deep-seated interest in understanding the intricacies of neurodegenerative diseases and am committed to advancing our knowledge in this field. Looking to the future, after getting my PhD, I will be an industry scientist bridging the understanding of neuroscience research and public health.
