Eskenazi Health is a not-for-profit healthcare organization dedicated to caring and advocating for the Indianapolis community.My role as a Financial Counselor with Eskenazi was to provide patients with the knowledge they need to better understand their financial responsibility when receiving healthcare services and to assist them with applying for applicable state, federal, and third party health insurance programs or charity care programs offered by Eskenazi Health. It was my responsibility to ensure patients’ applications were submitted accurately and in a timely manner. Furthermore, I communicated with patients to ensure they understood the various components of their health insurance plan, including their benefits and cost-sharing responsibilities. The purpose of my efforts was to increase our patients’ access to affordable, high quality healthcare services while actively working to improve the financial well-being of the healthcare organization by increasing our insured population and maximizing reimbursement opportunity.

My role as an Administration Intern within Eskenazi Health’s Clinical and Revenue Cycle Services department was to learn from revenue cycle leaders and assist with various ad hoc projects. During this time, I was introduced to executive level decision making processes and saw, up close, the management of day to day operations, and actively participated in the improvement of those operations. Throughout the course of the internship, I was exposed to a variety of departments and functions within the Revenue Cycle, as well as, Financial Operations and Business Decision Support where I gained healthcare financial acumen and vendor management experience. My primary duties included assisting departmental Directors, Managers, and Supervisors with project support. My primary role was to analyze data to identify problems or opportunities for improvement and use my analytical skills to create visuals and author white papers containing my findings and recommendations to senior leadership.

Confidential Drug, LLC was a mail order pharmacy service that shipped prescription medications to customers nationwide. The mission of Confidential Drug, LLC was to provide an efficient solution to customers that require frequent refills on much needed medications - all from the comfort of home.As a pharmacy technician-in-training, my responsibility was to use pharmacy software to ensure the timely processing of scripts received by physicians and efficiently billing third party payers for pharmaceuticals provided. My responsibilities often resulted in communication with physicians, patients, and insurers to resolve a variety of issues to ensure the pharmacy was paid for services provided and patient’s receive the medications they require. I was also responsible for the guaranteed arrival of shipments to long term care facilities and private residences across the nation. I was also trusted with aiding pharmacy leadership with a project to market the company to the local community and with being the voice of the company through client relationship building.
