My current position entails configuring and installing our software on client systems. The software requires careful configuration to operate in the way requested by the client and their trading partners. Because of this my work involves in-depth troubleshooting of client and our own systems, editing and creating xml configuration files to meet the required specification, and managing multiple complex time-dependant projects.The software is for trading and financial communications, meaning that it forms a critical system for our clients and errors can have serious financial consequences, it is therefore essential that we make as few mistakes as possible. To this end we perform rigorous testing on all work performed.

Heysham, Lancashire

Work consists of supporting legacy computer systems and an Oracle database as part of a team at the Heysham 2 nuclear power station. This takes place in a professional nuclear environment and as such the work requires attention to potential safety risks and a questioning attitude, in areas both related and unrelated to the role.Due to the nature of the DPS I have gained knowledge about many different areas of the plant, including PTSE, chemical monitoring, reactor core and turbines. Since starting this role I have been involved in outage operations and obtained a wealth of experience of communicating with the CCR staff regarding work to be performed and any possible effects this may have on nuclear safety.A lot of the work involves following station working instructions and I have become experienced with passport and CDMS to locate, update and create new documents, I have also undergone work request training for passport as part of this.I have helped perform installation of the COS injection monitoring system in the RCA as part of further work performed by the company and thus am also trained for entry into R2, R3, C0 and C2 areas.
