Here's the customer-value-add process I love:A product team sands away at the ambiguous edges of a pain point or a desire to center in on a core need. With the core need in range, the team ideates and experiments to target the "best" solutions to that need. The team decides what "best" means for the customer: joy-bringing, functional, portable, etc. The team executes and delivers. Then the team measures results and efficacy of the change. Rinse and repeat.The process above is magic to me. Each team member must remain humble and understanding; they must empathize with each other and the customer through what can be a stressful cycle. Each cycle is another addition to a fantastic product. Each product is an addition to a fantastic ecosystem that brings people comfort and joy. Magic.Before joining the tech world, I was a musician and an actor.I performed with world-class performance ensembles: Santa Clara Vanguard Drum and Bugle Corps, Northwestern’s Bienen Contemporary/Early Ensemble, Music of the Baroque (Chicago), Ravinia Festival Choir. With the Missoula Children's Theatre, I directed over 80 musical theatre productions around the world starring young people in the local communities. For each production, a new town welcomed myself and a coworker as we cast local young actors, taught them a production, and put on a performance, all in one short week! This role put me in contact with many cultures and walks of life, and it grew in me a great empathy. We all want to take risks to express ourselves deeply.
