Jacob Hering is a Systems Safety Engineer for Boeing Defense Space & Security (BDS) with an active Secret clearance and a master's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Oklahoma. His passion is to apply his model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and problem-solving skills to ensure the safety and reliability of aerospace systems.In 2023, he supported 11 modification programs for ETS&S (VC-25A, E-4B, C32/C40, and HOS). He performed System Safety Analyses (SSA) and Safety Assessment Reports (SAR) in accordance with ARP 4761 and MIL-STD-882E to show compliance with federal and military requirements. He also assigned hazard severities and development assurance levels to verify the design and implementation of mechanical systems, such as self-defense systems, aerial refueling camera systems, environmental cooling systems, and flight controls.Jacob has a strong research background in smart materials and intelligent systems, which he developed during his undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma. He won an Undergraduate Research Opportunities (UROP) scholarship for his project on creating a more robust and conductive Direct Ink Writing (DIW) ink using carbon nanotubes. He also designed, built, and tested a low-temperature Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printer for his senior capstone and master's thesis.Jacob is a motivated and collaborative engineer who strives to learn new skills and technologies, and to contribute to the innovation and excellence of Boeing and the aerospace industry.
