The International Antimicrobial Council is a nonprofit organization that provides analyses of applied antimicrobial agents on a variety of products. I work in tandem with the IAC's lead Microbiologist to process samples for our clients and produce results in a timely fashion. These requests range from qualitative odor assays to quantitative assessments of microbial growth under dynamic conditions. Independently, I run several projects that focus on standard method development and refinement.

As an undergraduate researcher in the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture's Amphibian Disease Laboratory, I assisted several graduate students with their projects to study the fungus Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans (Bsal). The cumulative goal of their experimentation was to understand the epidemiology of Bsal and the threat it poses to susceptible amphibian populations in North America. I cared for the lab's amphibian population, confirmed the presence of disease in test animals using microscopy, and performed assays to isolate Bsal DNA from test animals.

I joined Dow's Tittabawassee River Remediation Project as a contractor through Kelly Services, Inc. This project aims to remediate accumulated environmental toxins in the Tittabawassee's riverbed and floodplains. I primarily collected samples in the field while using GIS systems to evenly distribute collection points in the target area. I also aseptically handled samples while preparing them for analysis to determine the quantity of toxins in our target areas. These analyses informed our decisions on how best to treat affected areas of the river.
