Within this role, I am required to clean Thirroul Pool multiple times a week in addition to my standard lifeguarding duties. Cleaning duties are performed either alone or with one other colleague.My duties within this role include:- Making judgements on levels of cleanliness and deciding on priorities.- Cleaning of filtration systems.- Basic plant maintenance, or diagnosis if higher expertise is required.- Emptying, cleaning, chemically treating and refilling the pool in a timely manner.- Delegating duties to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently.- Working alone at night, including during potentially dangerous conditions such as high winds, extreme heat, or storms.- Adapting work tasks around dynamic environmental conditions, such as the weather or tides.- Reporting faulty/broken equipment, and submitting delivery requests, to the relevant organisations.- Ability to time-manage by completing all tasks within a short time frame.- Ability to self-manage and take responsibility in an environment with no supervision.- Use chemicals and manage personal and environmental safety.- Ability to mentor new/less experienced staff.- Strong knowledge of cleaning policies and procedures, as well as those that pertain to safety and chemical use.- Ability to work at heights.- Heavy inclination towards using all safety practices, including the use of PPE. I have been employed at every Council-operated facility and have displayed versatility and adaptability during each role and at each location.My duties within each role have called on a wide range of my professional skills. These include:- Supervision of pool users, many of which display various levels of swimming competency and water safety knowledge.- Implementation of pool rules.- Identification of high-risk users and user groups.- Ability to perform water quality tests, identify unusual/unsafe results and rectify them with remedial actions.- Exceptional ability to create a friendly, welcoming and enjoyable environment for all pool users.- Exemplary knowledge of first aid and resuscitation skills and techniques- Ability and experience in dealing with advanced resuscitation and rescue techniques.- Communicating with a range of stakeholders, including those from non-English speaking and minority backgrounds.- Ability to liaise with supervisors, management, and other Council staff to ensure the safe and continued operation of the pool and its surrounds.- Required to perform cleaning duties during and after shifts.- Ability to perform ground and facility maintenance in a timely manner and a keen eye for detail.- Experience in mentoring less experienced staff.- Knowledge and experience to operate pool equipment and plant, such as pool vacuums and pumps, among many others.- Significant knowledge and practical implementation of relevant legislation, procedures and policies, such as the Local Government Act.
