I don't know about you, but I hate reading paragraphs full of corporate buzzwords. (Synergize. Results-oriented. Highly Motivated.) Instead, here are some no-nonsense reasons why you might consider me for an opportunity:- You need someone who can handle a "high pressure environment" or "make critical decisions". Hi, I'm a 911 dispatcher and I make critical decisions in a high pressure environment every day for over 13 years. Once you've heard enough death and tragedy on a daily basis, nothing really fazes you.- You want someone who understands labor-management issues. I have been a labor union representative for about 7 years and most if it comes down to communication. Issues are always more complex than they appear, you can never make everyone happy, but there are basic laws and rules that both sides need to understand and follow. Unions and managers can both get a bad rap, sometimes deservedly so, but it doesn't have to be that way.- You need someone who can talk to different people in different settings. I talk both in person and in writing to all levels of people from line level staff, technical support teams, public events, and Chief or Executive level staff. I know that each audience needs its own style and content. You may need to explain more when talking to the public, but you don't want to lecture to the Chief. Technical staff needs as much detail as possible when troubleshooting an issue, where line level staff needs the Cliff Notes version so they can go back to doing their jobs.- You need someone who can solve problems and build good relationships with your clients, users or partners. I have built many positive relationships with my department heads because they know they can come to me with a problem, I will work on them to identify the source of those problems, and I'll help them fix it.- You need someone who really GETS training. Properly training a new employee and doing it right requires so much more than just a "do as I do" mentality. You need to teach your trainers how to communicate, how to use different tools and techniques to approach different trainees, and how to document and support their training.If any of these are checking your boxes -- let's talk.
