About Jacob Petersen

Jacob Petersen is Head of Community in the Office of Eric Schmidt. In this role, he serves as a senior member of Eric's leadership team where he directs the community team. The team drives the strategy, planning and implementation of convenings and community engagement across many of the foundation’s charitable organizations and Eric's personal portfolio of events.Previously, Jacob's career has spanned nearly 15 years in events and philanthropy, with a focus on the environmental nonprofit sector. He came to the organization from Ocean Conservancy where he was head of events leading all aspects of their fundraising and programmatic convenings, while managing a portfolio of individual major donors and corporate partnerships. Prior to that, Jacob worked as the director of special events for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, leading large-scale fundraisers, including one of Washington, D.C.'s top galas.Jacob began his events and philanthropy career at the California Science Center and later spent four years at the Jane Goodall Institute in the founder's office supporting the day-to-day activities of famed conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, including planning her worldwide lecture tour. Jacob holds a B.S. in Environment Science and Management from the University of Maryland.
