The Municipal Division allowed for many opportunities to expand my engineering knowledge and experience. While working with this group I was able to do some flow capacity calculations for both storm and sanitary systems to determine maximum allowable addition to the existing network. I was also involved with a road rehabilitation project in which re-paving and resurfacing designs were required.Utilizing my skills in AutoCAD and Civil3D was important in preparing engineering drawings and assessing scenarios such as safe U-turn possibilities, with the help of AutoTURN for AutoCAD.Conducting cost estimates for projects, completing submission packages and aiding in proposals and design submissions started to become regular tasks. Before finishing my work term I was able to help revise a draft copy for a Consultant Design Submission Requirement document for a local municipality, learning more about how the industry works in unison.

I gained experience in using a robotic Total Station for surveying, designing and updating engineering drawings for utilities and subdivisions using AutoCAD and Civil3D, compiling tender and contract documents using MMCD standards, conducting construction cost estimates, and inspecting ongoing construction sites.

The main tasks I conducted included the review of as-built and red-line engineering drawings, and to analyze road structure material tests to ensure each layer from the stabilized sub grade up to the asphalt and concrete were acceptable to City of Edmonton Standards.Additional projects included updating, coding, and reformatting an Excel/Access project tracking database for municipal improvement projects; Recreating field notes in Adobe Livecycle for fillable PDF format; and Revising & Recompiling a new Constructions Inspectors' Manual.
