    I worked with Prof. Neer Asherie on understanding protein crystallization and phase behavior. I developed new protocols for purifying, crystallizing and characterizing proteins. Protein phase behavior is poorly understood for most proteins. The complex nature of protein folding and protein crystallization makes this a difficult problem. Understanding the kinetics and thermodynamics of these systems is crucial for may pharmaceutical applications as well as understanding new ways to treat Alzheimer's, cataracts and other diseases that are cause by changes in protein phase behavior. Using Thaumatin and Lysozyme as model systems we demonstrated unique control over protein phase behavior by meticulously controlling the chiral precipitants used during crystallization.
