About Jacob Smedley
Jacob Smedley is a recent Temple University graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism and a Summa Cum Laude distinction. While at Temple, Jacob was involved with and in leadership positions with multiple sports media organizations, Owlsports Update, WHIP radio, TUICE Network, and more. At OwlSports Update Jacob worked up the executive ladder from a "volunteer" putting together stories in my free time to ending up as a Producer leading a 45-minute football and 30-minute basketball exclusive show every single week. Each week Jacob constructed a rundown with all of the show elements layered in, informed anchors and beat reporters and story ideas, and lead-directed the show every other Tuesday. At WHIP Radio, Jacob served as a Play-by-Play broadcaster for Temple Football, and Men's and Women's basketball. Since 2021, he has broadcasted over 10 games as both a PXP and a Color Commentator. Before each game, Jacob built out personal game notes through InDesign (See Below). Contact SIDs (Student Information Directors) on background and pronunciations for players, and meet with fellow broadcasters in advance to go over the plan. At TUICE, Jacob served as the Co Media Director. As the Media Director, he was in charge of all of the broadcasting for the Temple Ice Hockey Team on YouTube. Jacob set each broadcast through OBS Studio which is streamed through YouTube. He also coordinated intermission interviews with coaches and players during the game and ran a staff of up to six people during the broadcast.Outside of Temple, Jacob was the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the Edenton Steamers of the PCL in 2023. During the season he broadcasted over 30 games (including the PCL Championship series) on the teams' YouTube page. Jacob wrote postgame recaps, a season preview and review, and in-season announcements for the teams' website using WordPress. He also conducted over 30 postgame player interviews following Steamers' victories. From a very young age, Jacob has loved sports and mimicked announcers when listening to games with my dad.
