About Jacob Smith

Dedicated to a life long journey of self growth, I have learned that life is full of surprises. I am currently a young professional in the Twin Cities working in the Human Services Industry as an IHS (Individualized Home Supports) Supervisor although this was not my initial plan. In college, I was mainly focused on Marketing and wanted to pursue a career in sales. Along with my marketing degree, I wanted a minor that interested me and gives me a unique edge in my sales career. I chose psychology as my minor as I have always been fascinated with people and why we think the things we do. After winning a regional sales competition out of 84 college students, I knew sales was the right route for me. After graduating from USD, I moved to Greenville, South Carolina to be an Inside Salesman for UPS. My first job out of college sharpened my interpersonal skills and I made some great relationships on the way. After one year plus in Greenville, I was ready to apply for the Account Executive position which is an outside sales role with larger clients. I was promoted at the Minneapolis office. After some time in Minneapolis, I was starting to learn that selling shipping services didn't drive me or fulfill any passion I had. I wanted to feel like I was really helping people again. I wanted to pursue a management position so I could still build meaningful relationships and it is something I have enjoyed in past jobs. During my career search, I found my current position which is the best of both worlds. I get to manage a team that provides services that help Vulnerable Adults achieve their individual goals so they can continue to live Independently in the community. This sure isn't what I planned on doing back in college, but this job has given me a reason to work hard every single day and enjoy what I do. I am just enjoying life every step of the way and looking for any intriguing opportunities I can explore.

I build and maintain relationships with my clients and handle any issues they may have with their services. It is also key for my position to make sure all paperwork for my clients are completed and up to DHS standards.
