While attending University of Michigan for Computer Science, I found a strong passion for hackathons. I was inspired by the hundreds of driven and skilled developers I met traveling to events at schools like Yale, MIT, UPenn, PSU, UIUC, and more.Through these hackathons, I was connected with Imaginex, and invited to spend the summer building custom LED and projection mapping software, as well as designing, building, and performing live visual mixing on our installations at music festivals around the east coast.Between my experience at hackathons, and with Imaginex, I grew confident in my skills and developed a passion for building new things. This manifested as LawnGuru. At the end of 2014, I co-founded LawnGuru as the technical lead, developing our initial backend and iOS app for on-demand lawn service in time to launch for the 2015 season. This did require "taking a semester off". After our first successful lawn season with our iOS app, we were accepted into the 500 Startups accelerator. During that time, we launched an on-demand plow service, Android and web apps, and raised a $1M seed round of VC funding.As the technical lead, I wore many hats to scale our business from an initial 12 Michigan ZIP codes to 7 national markets, including the major metro areas around Detroit, Houston, Atlanta, D.C., Chicago, Cleveland, and Philadelphia. I learned to deploy scalable infrastructure on AWS and perform DB Administration duties with MongoDB. I've developed our iOS app with a combination of Swift and Objective-C, and the backend with Node.JS, utilizing Parse-Server. I have worked extensively with various frameworks and platforms, such as Twilio, Stripe, Slack, ZenDesk and more.LawnGuru's success has relied heavily on our ability to do more with less, scaling our capabilities rather than our team.
