Development of production level interferometric microscopy systems.

Boston University Optical Characterization and Nanophotonics Lab• Developed robust instrumentation, control processes, and data analysis software for high-throughput detection of discrete nanoparticles on an automated interferometric microscopy platform.• Designed and fabricated multiple microfluidic incubation systems for real-time imaging of nanoparticle binding to protein and DNA microarrays.• Developed image-content based algorithms for high-fidelity alignment and calibration of high-NA optical systems.• Created a novel defocus-based technique for detection and sizing of nanoparticles in a homodyne interferometer.• Designed and produced automated interferometric microscopy platforms with integrated sample incubation systems utilizing disposable microfluidic cartridges. These platforms are in current use in multiple collaborating research centers and businesses in the US and abroad.

Boston University Klapperich Lab• Developed a portable, power-free system for nucleic acid purification and stabilization intended to reduce cold chain dependence of HIV viral load monitoring in low-resource areas.
