The second internship was with Commercial Tool and Die. They are a company that produce and maintain plastic injection molds for many companies in the Grand Rapids (MI) area and more. I worked in the EDM department, I ran sinker type EDM machines (Makino’s) and cut the graphite electrodes required for said machines on 3-axis CNC machines (Makino’s). I spent the first half of the summer designing the graphite electrodes on Auto Desk, and the second half creating the tool paths required to cut the graphite electrodes while also running the machines.

The first internship was with Makino. They are a company that produces High end machines and software for CNC and EDM. While working with them I learned about how to operate and problem solve with their machines. I learned how to operate their many control panels and how to use G codes to adjust programs accordingly. I was taught how to use 3-axis CNC machines and both Wire and Sinker EDM machines. Projects were given to me to complete on said machines and I learned how to use Master Cam while doing these projects.
