Corps Member
As a City Year Corps member I tutor and mentor inner city elementary school students in Manchester New Hampshire. I provide academic support and behavioral counseling to fifth grade students who are struggling in the classroom. City Year targets low income areas to provide extra support in school, so as to combat the heightened drop-out rates in high poverty areas.

The courses I assist with include General Anthropology, Human Evolution, Biological Anthropology, Transcultural Health, and other Anthropology courses. I help students with study skills, note taking, test prep, understanding material, and constructing charts and other study aids.
Student Assistant For The Campus Sustainability Coordinator
As the student assistant to Lisa Mitten, the SUNY New Paltz Campus Sustainability Coordinator, I collect data to assess the sustainability of the SUNY New Paltz campus, and lead campaigns to improve it. I work with faculty to come up with plans for furthering all kinds of sustainability related efforts on campus. I attend committee meetings monthly to assist in discussions about sustainability goals, such as implementing sustainability learning outcomes into courses taught at the college. I helped to implement the Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Ranking System (S.T.A.R.S.) on SUNY New Paltz campus, which earned SUNY New Paltz a silver STARS rating. I collected, analyzed, and input data for various sustainability related information. I also lead public outreach campaigns to promote sustainable practices such as the use of refillable water bottles and the importance of unplugging appliances when they are not in use.
President And Founder
As founder of the Young Heroes club, I created a New Paltz branch of the nonprofit organization Young Heroes, which supports orphans in Swaziland, Africa who have lost their parents to AIDS. I have seeked out and organized a team of members and trained others to become leaders themselves. We have organized events using venues in the village of New Paltz and local artists as well as artists from outside the area in order to fundraise for the cause.
President
As president of the Outing Club I organized a vast array of outdoor trips and apply for funding from the school to make them free or very affordable for students. I raised the club up from a loosely organized handful of people to an organized and consistent group of leaders who receive professional training and provide services for the rest of the student body. With the help of my executive board I secured a $10,500 budget for the club for the 2013-14 school year, the highest amount the club has ever had. This amount was granted again for the 2014-15 school year. The club uses this budget to pay for training and to purchase gear for the use of the entire student body. The club hosts weekly hiking trips, rock climbing trips and many other adventures throughout the year such as snowboarding, ice climbing, caving/spelunking, white water rafting, backpacking, and more. I worked closely with my executive board (consisting of about 20 to 30 people) to make these trips available to as many students as possible and to teach leadership. Through these endeavors we helped each other strengthen our expertise and technical skills as group leaders in wilderness environments. My biggest accomplishment in the club was leading it through growth from just a few people with no budget to a well-funded club of over 50 regular attendees, with 30 to 40 people at each weekly meeting, a leadership team of over 20 people, and a following of over 1,000 members on Facebook. In doing so I feel I have helped to create other leaders, because many of my fellow executive board members have grown to a point of delegating tasks to others and building their own teams. I worked closely with a co-president during the second year of my presidency and we worked together to train successors. I am proud to say the club is still thriving in our absence. Thus, we succeeded in creating a sustainable model to perpetuate the thriving status of the club.
Outdoor Education Program Leader
I helped to design and direct an outdoor education program for groups of anywhere from 8- 20 summer campers from inner city areas, ages 8-16. This included overnight trips and lessons in various outdoor skills, self sufficiency, and leadership skills. I also served as counselor when not leading program. This experience involved round the clock availability and alertness to serve the needs of the campers, as well as focused organizational skills to create and carry out the outdoor education program effectively. Team management, patience, respect, and open communication were essential to this role.
Beach Maintenance Crew
Cleaned up the beach at Pinewood lake in Trumbull, Connecticut early in the mornings and made sure it was safe for beach-goers that day.
