My extensive experience has honed my understanding of what makes a great legal directory submission, which ultimately led to the formation of Kidd Aitken. Today, we have a talented, international 30-strong team comprising former editors and researchers from Chambers, Legal 500 and other major legal directories. We have helped over 200 law firms in our 5 years of operation, achieving stellar results for our clients.With more than 16 years’ experience in the legal sector, I co-founded Kidd Aitken in 2015 with a vision to create the world’s largest legal directory consultancy. We work with leading law firms around the world advising Partners, legal marketing and business development teams on everything to do with legal directory submissions. From how to strategise to helping them understand the importance of a persuasive submission, and the crucial roles of client and peer feedback. It was an interest in languages that led me into legal marketing consulting. After completing a BA in Hispanic Studies and living, studying and working in both Latin America and Spain, I joined Chambers and Partners. I was soon made Editor and tasked with launching the first edition of Chambers Latin America in Buenos Aires in 2008. I went on to edit the next two editions and was responsible for every ranking table in the guide, reviewing thousands of submissions and coordinating the work of a team of 15 researchers. I also conducted research on European, African and US legal markets. With my global experience and languages, I could see the potential of building an international consultancy focussed on supporting law firms worldwide with their legal directory submissions and legal awards. Initially, I launched my own consultancy, JD Aitken Consulting, before deciding to join forces with Daniel Kidd, a long-time friend and colleague who had followed a similar path. After a time, we realised we were stronger together and, in 2015, we founded Kidd Aitken. In the rare moments when I’m not supporting law firms with their legal marketing strategies, you will find me on the banks of a river following my other passion – fishing.
