About Jacob Babb
Throughout my life, I have had many opportunities to develop certain values that I prioritize in my work and school. These are: Excellence, Service, and Integrity.ExcellenceWhile attending Southern Virginia University, I was part of the university's Chamber Singers, the premier vocal ensemble on campus. I enjoyed the challenge of learning and performing music at a high level in a group setting. Before college I had never been part of a choir, so in order to keep my head above water, I committed to quickly learn my part by practicing often using all the resources I had available to me.When I started college, I also committed to do all of my homework, study, and be honest in my work. By graduation, my GPA was 3.75 and I received Business Honors.By striving for excellence, I work hard to learn what I need to succeed in my current role.ServiceService has been important to me throughout my life. As a teen, I was in Boy Scouts where I received the award of Eagle. For my project, I gathered a group of volunteers who joined me in interviewing residents at a nursing home. These interviews were recorded and burned onto CDs for the residents to give to their families. In order to organize this project, I needed to unite a diverse group of volunteers under a common mission to provide the best service possible to the residents and their families.At my graduation in May, I was one of four individuals recognized with the Leader-Servant Distinction Award. This award required that I record at least 100 hours of service including a capstone project, where I led other volunteers. For my capstone project, I organized two blood drives with the Red Cross. University students, faculty, and community members came together to volunteer and donate.In future roles, I want to be able to continue to serve and lift both my community and coworkers.IntegrityManagerial Finance was one of the more difficult classes I took in college, but I decided that I was going to learn the material. We took the tests at home and I decided that even though I could possibly do better if I used my notes, I would not. Because I took the time to actually learn the material, by the final I had learned and retained the information better than my peers and scored higher than many of them.Honesty and integrity drive the choices I make. I am looking for a financial analyst position that will allow me to continually develop excellence, service, and integrity. Ideally, I will be in a position that allows me to support leadership and expand my skills in Excel, Power BI, and R.
