About Jacob Bethany

I'm a programmer both as a hobby and as a vocation. I've been writing code since I was about ten --ever since a relative of mine showed me a game that he had built and sparked an interest in me. I started with a Windows 3.1 machine writing applications in QBASIC and moved from that to programming in C with Watcom and Visual Studio 6.0 on Windows 98. Things snowballed from there. Over the years, I expanded my skill-set to include front-end/back-end web work with the LAMP stack and cross platform application development in several languages, but most notably C++. I've always enjoyed figuring out how things work and developing new methods and tools to do things. When I'm not programming, I'm usually fiddling with my guitar or struggling to sleep.

(Owing to an NDA, I will not disclose any specific functionality of the website – only the types of work I’ve performed.)I've remade the database schema from the ground up for more efficient and expansible table relationships, and I've made a point of implementing all transactions between the client and server scripts in such a way so as to be performed by API calls using Javascript on the front-end so that the client-facing portion of the finished project can be as malleable and sleek as possible and so that bandwidth may be reduced by limiting the required number of page loads.I'll soon be helping to screen additional front-end developer candidates so as to enhance the UI/UX and test compatibility with more browsers on additional devices. The development on this project is being done on a part-time basis as I work on my own hobby projects. I maintained and developed for a legacy server using the LAMP stack. Most of the work was in PHP and MySQL. Sometimes this involved writing or optimizing queries, ensuring data integrity enforcement, or fixing existing bad data. I did some front-end work with JavaScript/AJAX for RESTful data transactions and some Q.A. testing and development for an iPhone application. I helped with some feasibility testing and built a prototype for an in-house project. I'd also work directly with clients, when needed to define project requirements and to test them. Show less
