Assistant Manager, Office Of Grants Administration, Innovation & Enterprise
Research Assistant
Final Year Project (FYP) in fulfilment of a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Chemistry with Specialisation in Medicinal Chemistry. Conducted research under the supervision of A/P Chng Shu Sin and Dr. Chong Zhi Soon at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, National University of Singapore.Project Title: Characterisation of the roles of certain proteins-of-interest (POIs) in phospholipid transport in Gram-negative bacteria.Aim: To identify interacting partners of these POIs via pull-down assays complemented with in vivo photoaffinity crosslinking experiments to infer function(s).• Performed molecular cloning of His-tagged POIs for pull-down assays.• Performed Spot Plate assays to verify phenotypic rescue of His-tagged complements in knockout mutants.• Performed protein extraction and pull-down assays using IMAC. Identified several novel interactions between interacting partners and one of the POIs as a result of the pull-down assays.• Regularly performed Gel Electrophoresis, Staining & Immunoblotting.• Conducted in vivo photoaffinity crosslinking experiments using unnatural amino acids genetically incorporated into the POIs via Site-Directed Mutagenesis.• Performed Fluorescence Microscopy experiments to further characterise potential interacting partners of POIs.
Research Intern
Conducted research under the supervision of Dr. David Quach in fulfilment of a requirement for the A*STAR Undergraduate Scholarship (AUS) at the Experimental Drug Development Centre (EDDC).• Synthesised, purified and characterised a small drug library of Proteolysis-Targeting Chimeras (PROTACs) for the treatment of various cancers.
Air Defence Weapons Specialist (Adws)
Served National Service (NS) and held the rank of 3rd Sergeant. Held the appointment of ADWS at the 3rd Divisional Air Defence Artillery Battalion.• Overall Systems IC responsible for ensuring the operational readiness of the Portable Search and Target Acquisition Radar (PSTAR) and Mobile PSTAR (MPSTAR) systems.• Performed routine maintenance of the PSTAR & MPSTAR systems, scheduled the systems for planned maintenance to ensure operational readiness, and ensured maintenance and deployment records were duly handled.• Worked in a highly teamwork-oriented environment, often communicating with other ICs to ensure tools, vehicles, signal sets, arms, and field equipment were prepared for operations.• Instructed the incoming cohort of ADWS PSTAR/MPSTAR as an on-ground instructor.• Participated in the RSAF Airshow 2018 for the exhibition of the MPSTAR system.• Deployed for Exercise Wallaby 2017.• Platoon Flagbearer for the Specialist Graduation Cadet Parade Feb 2017.• Awarded for best in Physical Training as a Specialist Cadet.
Student Researcher
Final Year Project (FYP) in fulfilment of a Diploma in Applied Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Science (Medicinal Chemistry Option). Conducted research alongside two other group members – Ethan Lim and Ben Ho – under the supervision of Ms. Catherine Phua and Dr. Jeremy Tan from Singapore Polytechnic and Dr. Yu Zaiqun and Dr. Ann Chow from the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences (ICES), at ICES.• Studied the crystallisation properties of Disodium Cromoglycate (DSCG) with the aim of altering crystal habit and increasing particle size through process optimisation, thereby improving manufacturing processes.• Performed solvent screening to determine an appropriate solvent system and slurry experiments to investigate the effects of solvent composition on crystal habit and size. • Measured solubility separately via conductivity, Crystalline instrument, and observation to establish the metastable zone width.• Conducted cooling crystallisation growth experiments to study the effects of seed loading, cooling rate, and addition of anti-solvent on crystal habit and particle size.• Characterised the DSCG crystals obtained in the experiments via Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Microscope Imaging.
Research Intern
Conducted research under the supervision of then-PhD student Nunnarpas Yongvongsoontorn in Dr. Motoichi Kurisawa's lab at the Institute of Bioengineering & Nanotechnology (IBN), Nanomedicine Department, as part of the Youth Research Programme (YRP).• Prepared green tea-based micellar nanocomplexes (MNCs) for targeted drug delivery in cancer therapy via solid dispersion and purified them via dialysis.• Studied the effect of varying polymer-to-drug ratio on the particle size, polydispersity, surface charge and drug loading of MNCs. MNCs were characterised via dynamic light scattering and UV/Vis spectroscopy.• Tested the stability of the MNCs in various conditions.• Performed in vitro cell viability assays and analysed in vivo data for the MNCs' antiangiogenic and antitumor effects.
Research Intern
Conducted research under the supervision of then-PhD student Remy Narozny in Professor A. Ganesan's lab at the School of Pharmacy, University of East Anglia, as part of an Overseas Industrial Training Programme.• Synthesised, purified and characterised drug analogues for the treatment of Schistosomiasis, a Neglected Tropical Disease.
