I worked for the Fiscal Division of the Legislative Services Agency, a nonpartisan agency serving both chambers of the legislature. I staffed the Joint Education Appropriations Committee and the education committees in both chambers. I additionally provided fiscal analysis of state programs and legislation, published reports on the activities of state departments and boards, and ensured that legislators had access to all the budgetary information they needed as they assembled the appropriations bill.

As a part-time agent on the Ludwig Real Estate Team, I assisted with showing homes, estimating home prices, and sale closings.

As President, I oversaw a $2.5 million budget, worked with university & city leaders, and represented students to leaders across Iowa. Successes include $350K+ allocated towards food security programs, tens of thousands in new scholarship dollars, and expanded support for sustainability programs. I also negotiated $3 million worth of multi-year contracts with multiple university partners during my tenure. These contracts, among other things, ensured expanded funding for student journalism, continued support of mental health resources, and maintained access to free legal services on campus.

Office of Congresswoman Shelia Cherfilus-McCormick (D, FL-20)During my fellowship, I was given the opportunity to work on Transportation and Infrastructure Committee business for the office. This entailed preparing meeting binders, performing research, and monitoring meetings. In addition to that work, I helped with the business for our other committees, communications work, and constituent services.

As a clerk for State Representative Jane Bloomingdale (R, District 51) Bloomingdale, I was responsible for legislative research, constituent communications, preparing meeting binders, and sending out the weekly newsletter.Representative Bloomingdale also served as the Chairwoman of the Local Government Committee, so I also worked as the committee secretary for the committee. In that capacity I organized meeting agendas, arranged subcommittees, took minutes, and communicated all official decisions to the Clerk of the Iowa House.

As a Government Affairs Intern, I worked with our bipartisan Government Affairs team. The team was dedicated to advancing client interests through lobbying state and federal government officials. I attended client meetings, performed extensive research on state and federal policies, and monitored Government reports and meetings on issues relevant to our clients.

As a Public Affairs & Public Relations intern, I worked with the Public Affairs and Public Relations teams. The teams were dedicated to advancing client interests through creating, promoting, and shaping messages and media narratives regarding the clients and their work. I assisted the teams in performing media monitoring, maintaining media lists, conducting research, and providing other various deliverables for our clients.

As a Produce Associate, I was responsible for food preparation, taking customer orders, answering the store’s phones, various sanitation protocols, and closing the department down in the evenings.

As a Dairy Associate, I was responsible for keeping Department shelves stocked and closing the department down at nights.

Working in the grocery department entailed keeping shelves stocked, helping customers get groceries to their vehicles.

As a Teaching Assistant, I worked with Dr. Richard Mansbach in teaching the department’s War & Politics course. I helped create questions for and proctor the exams. I held office hours twice a week and attended all the classes. In a typical week, I would set aside 6 hours for the course.

I was an intern for a State Representative while in high school. I would go in the afternoons several times a week to assist with constituent communications, research bills, and staff my representative during meetings.
