About Jacob Ellis

Jacob Ellis is the Director for External Relations and Culture at the Office of the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales. In this role, he supports public bodies and the Welsh Government in implementing the Well-being of Future Generations Act. Jacob's responsibilities also include advocating for cultural well-being and facilitating changes to promote culture and creativity. In 2023, he led a review into the Welsh Government's implementation of the Act and is currently leading the Commissioner's second Future Generations Report 2025. Jacob has experience in advising organizations on sustainability and future generations models. He co-developed the Football Association of Wales' Sustainability Strategy in 2022 and serves as a Climate Justice Advisor for the Museums Association. Additionally, Jacob is the UN Foundation Next Generation Fellow for Future Generations, advising the United Nations on the needs and interests of future generations. He played a key role in designing the UN Common Principles for Future Generations in 2023. He continues to influence the multilateral systems as a Future Generations Global Ambassador. In 2024, he designed the Future Generations Forum - drawing over 100 experts to Cardiff in support of the UN Declaration for Future Generations. He has held positions as a Non-Executive Director at Literature Wales and a Trustee at Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru. Jacob's diverse background includes being a former BBC Wales Journalist and serving as the President of Aberystwyth University Students' Union. He holds a BA Degree in Welsh and International Politics from Aberystwyth University and an MA Degree in Broadcast Journalism from Cardiff University.

The Future Generations Global Ambassadors programme is a group of 25 young people mobilising and advocating for future generations. The mandate of the Ambassadors is to share their vision for youth leadership in the future generations agenda and helping to shape the future of the Future Generations Leadership Accelerator.The inaugural Future Generations Leadership Accelerator was designed and launched in 2022 to empower young people from around to take their places as future generations leaders. This first cohort had 345 young leaders from more than 42 countries around the world participate. Their contributions also led to the creation of the Contract for Our Future presented at Stockholm+50 which captured a powerful call to action for Member States to protect the interests of future generations.
