Create and record a lecture for a pediatric nursing course about caring for pediatric and adolescent patients who are transgender or gender non-conforming. The lecture has been used each semester since the original recording and is updated in order to keep up with the most recent standards of care.

Work closely with simulation experts and experienced standardized patients to create a scenario that highlights the challenges of a transgender adolescent experiencing bullying. This simulation is used with nursing students in order to help them develop and enhance awareness around therapeutic communication.

I am the nurse case manager for the Accessing Care Early program (ACE) at The Bartlett Specialty Practice, an infectious disease clinic at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. As the ACE nurse, I work closely with young adult patients ages 18-30 who have been newly diagnosed with HIV, are transitioning from pediatric to adult care, or just need extra support navigating the complex world of medicine. The primary role of the ACE nurse is to act as the point person between patient and provider through the monitoring of provider's inbox, answering patient questions and concerns as appropriate, telephone triage, reviewing lab results and discussing with patients as appropriate, and most importantly, connecting with patients to ensure they are supported.

In this role, I conducted intakes with young people, ages 16-24, who were interested in beginning Suboxone treatment for opioid use. The intake includes medical history, previous and current substance use, checking PDMP for controlled substance prescriptions, and assessing a client’s need for other services such as housing, transportation, and primary care. Client education was provided at intake and included topics such as how to properly use Suboxone, signs of overdose and how to administer Narcan, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, and more. Weekly follow-up appointsments were conducted to assess each client's progress and new needs that may have arisen.
