I managed a team of eight to 10 sales professionals who offered security products and services to small- and mid-sized companies in the New York City metrpolitan areas. As team leader, I was responsible for training, day-to-day leadership, motivation, accountability and ever-increasing sales results. The products and services ADT offered through this team included intrusion detection systems, CCTV, video surveillance, wireless alarm monitoring, and much more.

I served as sales manager for two teams offering telecommunications services in the New York City metropolitan and in Connecticut. I was responsible for recruiting, orientation, training, day-to-day supervision, reaching sales goals, accountability, motivation and team-building. Our teams offered local and long distance telecommunications service, Internet access, virtual private networks (VPNs), T-1 access, fiber optic installations, and much more.

Having served as the International Marketing Director for a major defense contractor in the ammunition sector for the prior decade, I was hired as an international marketing consultant with Primex Technologies, a leading firm in that sector that had earlier been known as Olin Defense and was eventually acquired by General Dynamics Corp.As a consultant, I helped the full-time marketing director identify new opportunities among ministries of defense and prime contractors throughout the world. I did this by participating in trade shows attended by Primex and by organizing independent solo trips to prospective customer nations. A particularly memorable trip was to South Africa, where I independently met with government officials and industry executives across that country, and returned to Primex with a briefcase full of exciting sales opportunities.

Export Capital, LLC was a financial services boutique based in New York City that offered export financing to U.S. defense contractors attempting to sell their products to foreign governments thoughout the world. The firm was created, based on my prior decade as an international marketing director in the defense sector, to fill a void in the export financing arena.While the U.S. Export-Import Bank offers financing for all "civilian" products, it does not offer financing for defense-related products. My company filled that void by developing a unique financing tool based on the "securitization" of sovereign government debt. Essentially, Export Capital, LLC, collaborating closely with the structured finance group at Morgan Stanley, the global investment bank, was prepared to create a pool of cash flows, based on the promise-to-pay from a number of sovereign governments. These pools would, in turn, be segmented and sold off to institutional investors.Export Capital, LLC closed a multimillion finacing for the Government of Romania, offered strategic advice on the restructuring of billions of dollars issued by the U.S. Federal Financing Bank to the Government of Israel, and enjoyed other businesses successes.

I served initially as head of domestic marketing for Bulova Technologies, Inc., a unit of the Fortune 100 Loews Corp., responsible for all sales to DoD and the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. In that capacity, I developed all marketing materials, handled all trade shows, wrote and disseminated all press releases, developed relations with key military and civilian leaders in the U.S. armed forces, and sold military fuzes, ammunition components and technical services across the U.S.Soon, I was made Director of International Marketing (and eventually Vice President of International Masrketing), in which my goal was to transform Bulova from a complete non-exporter of military fuzes and ammunition components to the No. 1 exporter in the world in these product categories.I accomplished this feat by establishing a global network of sales agents and commissioned representtaives in approximately 25 countries -- among them: Australia, Egypt, Greece, Israel, Korea, Pakistan, Switzerland, Taiwan and Turkey -- and closed business in about 20 of those countries.

While working as a public affairs consultant and speechwriter in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, it occurred to me that an excellent non-fiction book could be written about the history and business strategy of the General Dynamics Corporation, a business goliath which at the time was selling the No. 1 weapon system to the U.S. Amy (the M-1 tank), to the U.S. Navy (the Los Angeles-calss nuclear submarine) and the U.S. Air Force (the F-16 fighter).I sold the idea the The New York Times Publishing Company and was put under contract in 1982 to write such a book. I performed hundreds of interviews with government leaders and defense industry executives, produced a 400-page manuscript, which was published by Random House in 1985 and became a best-seller in various cities across the United States (particularly those where General Dynamics or other major defense contractors had a strong presence.) The book was favorably reviewed in the mainstream media, and I undertook a major media tour of television and radio stations throughout the nation.

At various points in my career, I have either been invited to provide advice to government officials, or held consulting positions.
