Jacob Gwynn is a former animation artist, where he spent close to a decade working in 2D traditional animation. He is also a commissioned oil painter and a highly skilled mixed media artist, who is passionate about original and creative artwork. Jacob’s background in animation and the art industry has given him a strong advantage over other artists, which has no doubt contributed to his rapid rise within the global tattoo community. Jacob lives and breathes art. His experience ensures that he has a proclivity for capturing colour contrast, composition and detail within his work. In an industry that is largely grey scale, he stands out not only for his aptitude with colour, but for his ability to bring black and grey realism tattoos to life. Jacob’s tattoo apprenticeship was guided by renowned colour realism tattoo artist Claire Reid at the esteemed Ajna Tattoo in Byron Bay, NSW. After completing his apprenticeship, where he learnt to transfer his artistic knowledge and skills to tattooing, he moved to the Gold Coast where he has been developing his craft. Jacob has travelled Australia, winning numerous awards in tattoo conventions including ‘Best Large Colour’, ‘Best Small Colour’ and ‘Best Colour Portrait healed’. In 2020 alone, he has also won places within the categories for ‘Best DC Comics Joker’, ‘Best Shoulder tattoo’ and ‘Best Calf Tattoo’ in the International Tattoo Awards. Jacob’s work has been featured by Tattoo Media Ink and Skin Art Mag as the ‘Editor’s choice’ and has been featured in various Australian tattoo publications. For someone who has only been tattooing for 5 years, he has quickly become a respected and sought after artist within the industry.
