As the UX Lead for design systems at ARAG, I work with a Scrum team to define, develop and regularly release UI components that meet the project needs of stakeholders and help us bring innovative solutions to production with greater speed and consistency. To generate ideas and a roadmap for the product, I take advantage of weekly UX meetings where we review designs and various upcoming project requirements. This, combined with regular Scrum team refinements and developer feedback provides fertile ground for new pursuits.The UI design and publishing of these components is something I directly handle in Figma while relying on UX colleagues for feedback, QA, and assistance in building new additions. The approach employed is atomic: foundational design and branding (ex. colors, typography, icons), core styles (ex. buttons, card layouts), and Angular UI components (ex. form inputs, alerts, navigation). Additionally, ADA compliance is a core business value that is baked into the design system's code. As such, it plays a crucial role in helping us maintain this compliance across our portfolio of experiences.Across 40+ unique projects since 2022, our design system has saved four scrum teams more than 7,000 combined hours of development while drastically increasing throughput across the board. Usage metrics across all properties have also been positively impacted by the consistency of the user experiences that attorneys, members and clients have when interacting with ARAG. Owing to the increase in consistency, improved user experience and speed to production, the design system continues to foster a positive relationship with our business partners.Around this design system work, I also provide UX mentorship and traditional UX support to a Scrum team that’s focused on B2B solutions for units such as customer care, finance and claims. My days can include gathering business requirements, running workshops, conducting usability tests or writing stories.

As a member of the Integer UX team I was a subject matter expert on creating digital interfaces for the likes of Pella, LG and Alliant Energy. I would gather requirements from account executives and clients, create designs and work with developers out of our Des Moines, Dallas and Denver offices to bring them to market. Additionally, I specialized in running workshops to help our clients define their needs and facilitated ideation sessions and user testing. During my time at Integer, I also had the chance to go through the Integer Leadership Institute where I was afforded the chance of being mentored more directly by high level Integer management. I visited the various offices in North America and explored themes of leadership and the shapes it can take on in crafting my career.

User experience, mobile app design and front-end web development for a variety of regional clients from small to large, including Acme Tools, Scheels, the Jeb Bush 2016 presidential campaign and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternal organization. Our branch of Mittera was a small one, so the UX Design role was broad, encompassing UX research, UI design and front end development. The most notable experience was working with a major presidential candidate in the 2016 election cycle. This included daily meetings with the campaign’s digital director, rapid prototyping, working with developers based in both Des Moines and Florida, QA and device testing and Google Analytics reporting.

I planned, prototyped, designed, and implemented front-end interfaces for iOS, Arc IMS and ArcServer applications in addition to full development and design on our public-facing websites. The annual user conference was a platform where I provided hands-on training and opened feedback loops with users. Additionally, I maintained consistent research feedback through usability testing and surveys with our clients and the offices using our products in order to generate feedback and ideation around new features.
