Technical Architecture ● Created a 4 node spark cluster in AWS EC2 ● Architected a solution with S3, Apache Spark and Redshift to support an initiative to get a 360 degree view of the customer ● S3 is used as the data storage layer, Spark as the data transformation layer and Redshift as the service layer. This design was chosen to give a great amount of flexibility to the data scientists in the department, while still limiting the number of hours spent on maintenance. ● Enabled s3a in Spark to use S3 as pseudo-hdfs to easily read and write parquet files ● Managing the external parquet files in s3 using a hive metastore to take advantage of the cost based optimizer ● Created a "cleaned" data layer that contained the raw data in parquet format to facilitate data investigation using the spark thrift server, boto3 and aws sdk ● Spark data transformations written in Scala and built with SBT ● Entire data pipeline orchestrated in LuigiLead Data Engineer ● Digital Coaching Center Project ● Using an AWS Instance link to snapshot tables on a nightly basis and write them to S3 ● Created parquet files from these nightly snapshots to support further investigation into the data ●Worked with the solution owner to create metrics and modeled data in Redshfit and transform them in Spark to support standard reporting ● Ticketmaster Project ● Receiving nightly sftp pushes from Ticketmaster that contains all the activity for the prior day. Some of the most important files are tickets, attendance and remaining seats. ● To find the correct number of sold seats the latest transaction by event, section, row and seat had to be selected. This was especially challenging due to the fact that seats may be sold and returned multiple times. ● Ticketmaster customers were programmatically compared against other data sources that we ingest, including the DCC to begin to get a 360 degree view of a US Soccer customer
