I'm Jacob Dougherty, a motivated 11th grade high school student who hopes to one day become a mechanical or biomedical engineer. I am currently searching for engineering internship, research, or shadowing opportunity for the summer months of 2024! Feel free to reach out if you are aware any opportunities!Throughout high school, I have focused my time on growing my engineering skills by pursuing activities such as robotics, personal design challenges, and taking advanced courses. In freshman year I began my robotics journey through FIRST. After my first season, I found myself yearning for more and decided to join a newly created community team, quickly rising to the position of the Hardware Design lead for my sophomore year. After a great first season placing culminating with placing at the top of our league and winning over 6 judged awards, I continued my way up the ranks and rose to the position of co-captain as well as continuing my previous position of Hardware Design lead. Throughout my junior year, I led a hardware team of 4 and and total team of 9 to once again place at the top of our league and advance to the regional competition! Besides robotics, I have helped create prototype designs for small companies and I am currently working on creating, designing, and selling innovative pickleball products on ETSY. I have also met with engineers in a variety of disciplines from my community to peer review my designs and garner more knowledge about the field of engineering.Along with engineering, one of my major passions in life is writing, particularly using it as a medium to advocate and report on things that interest me throughout my community. I have taken up the position of News and Features editor for The Sage Publication and have helped advance the relatively new program both technologically and structurally in the time I have been there. As a student journalist since 5th grade, reporting is something incredibly important to me, and having the opportunity to combine the skills I have learned through engineering and journalism has been a life-changing experience. In the past two years, I joined two political campaigns as an intern to help with planning, writing, and social media to help further my interpersonal and writing skills.I am a leader throughout my community, acting as the Treasurer for my student body, Vice President of my school science Olympiad club, as well as in the experiences mentioned above. For more information on the activities I have participated in and things I didn't include above, take look through my profile!
