At the Embassy of Australia in Washington, D.C., I sustained the US-Australia relationship by providing Ambassador Joe Hockey and the small executive staff team with targeted research, policy briefings, executive summaries, weekly news briefings, and administrative support The position required the ability to condense complex concepts into simple and digestible materials suitable for a high-level audience. The work required a tact understanding of how global economic, security, and geopolitical trends affect the US-Australian relationship.

I previously worked with the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS): a DC-based think tank focused on analyzing and informing on US national security and defense strategy. My position as a security generalist intern within the International Security Program allowed me to work on a variety of projects alongside leading regional experts in US security topics and in-house fellows from every branch of the US military. My projects included the development of a TTX with emphasis on future military capabilities and strategic signaling in the Asia-Pacific, research on US Navy force structuring and platforms, research on Foreign Military Financing, research on the Chinese and Indian space launch programs, research on global populism and support for CSIS 7 Revolutions, and organizing events with high profile guests (i.e. Ash Carter, Robert Work, Gen. Paul Selva). Previously a cyber security research assistant to Robert Knake: a Sr Advisor at Orkestrel & Context Relevant, Sr Fellow at The Council on Foreign Relations, and the former Director for Cybersecurity at The White House. I completed focused research assignments on various topics in cyberspace to assist Knake's projects—particularly those with Orkestrel. Through written reports emphasizing maximum depth and clarity, I utilized all open source material (including academic, government, and industry-specific material), as I refined my quantitative and qualitative analysis skills Project topics included: the weaknesses of the Cyberinsurance industry, the potential federal role in guiding US Cyberinsurance, and the growth rates of the digital economy.

My success in those papers required disciplined scheduling, the ability to work on simultaneous projects without sacrificing detail, and the resolve to master difficult material. Most importantly, I channeled my inquisitive nature into my research, as I pursued unique answers to uncertain and often volatile problems. My courses often sparked dialogue with peers and faculty hailing from 10 or more countries. This diversity taught me to realize my biases and welcome a spectrum of opinions in solving the world’s greatest problems. Through my research, I found my intellectual identity as a future-orientated realist: I am predisposed to interpret how strategic relationships and power variables will change, and I am never satisfied with simply analyzing the status quo.

As a Fellow with the Michelle Nunn Senatorial Campaign, I worked as a leader and director of volunteers in Georgia's DeKalb county (pop. 750,000). I executed grassroots fundraising and GOTV efforts directly out of Michelle Nunn's office in downtown Atlanta. My role was organizational in nature as I created events, directed volunteers and interns, and oversaw voter canvassing. Working with the campaign taught me how to thrive and adapt in a fast-paced, emotionally-charged, and chaotic work environment. As a nearly 24/7 project attempting to engage nearly 10 million Georgians, problems and failures were common, but I found that persistence and goal-orientated action could organize any disarray.
