I originally interviewed him for a sales position, but saw his operational competencies in the interview, so we crafted a role to fill some gaps in our business and match his skill set. What Jacob did from there was well beyond my expectations for the role. Since we did not have the role previously, Jacob had to learn everything about an ambiguous role with no playbook. He did so very quickly. He asked questions, understood how the business functioned, his role within it, and often asked what success looked like. He was very goal oriented, so getting aligned on the end product was often enough to put us on a positive path. Among other things, Jacob elevated our business in a couple key areas. - Data accuracy and visibility - Jacob managed the transition of our data between platforms (Tableau to Quicksight), maintained data integrity through automation, operational processes, and manual spot checks, and supported management in using data to better understand and action multiple parts of our operation. - Operational efficiencies - Jacob worked cross functionally to understand where departments across the organization were being bogged down. He implemented a number of SOPs and automations to improve the quality of life for his colleagues and increase efficiency. Jacob exhibited some core strengths worth recognition. He was able to learn new skills, softwares, really anything, very well. As a startup, most of what we do is new. Jacob never backed down from anything new or challenging, he in fact did the opposite. He loves a challenge and figuring things out. Never once spoke about things outside of his job description if an idea or problem had merit, he just focused on the problem solving and finding a solution to solve the problem. Jacob was an easy person to manage. Never did I have to check in with Jacob on progress, deadlines, or deliverables. It was often Jacob who was pushing me and the business to meet his pace and productivity. Jacob did a great job to understand the scope of things he was working on before he began and was able to operate autonomously and cross functionally to meet deadlines. Jacob sought feedback and digested it well, often implementing it into his work immediately. Jacob's success was tied to his ability to work cross functionally, so his ability to understand, empathize, and problem solve was put to the test frequently. He stood up well to those tests. I could not recommend Jacob highly enough for an operationally driven role. His diligence and determination are unmatched. He's sharp and possesses good critical thinking skills. He understood his role within the business and worked for his success to be the company's success. Jacob will be an asset to whoever is lucky enough to land him and I'm sure he will elevate any role or company he sets foot in."
