As Editor-in-Chief of our graduate newsletter while earning my Master’s in Journalism, I transformed its content from static to dynamic, expanded alumni readership and reduced production costs by migrating it from print to digital. This role required me to direct a team of 10, manage content calendars (story budgets) and maintain our website. ⏩ HIGHLIGHTS➜ Coordinated all aspects of monthly speaker’s bureau from event marketing and communications to event logistics. ➜ Participated in speaker recruitment featuring journalists and celebrity alums including Oprah Winfrey and David Letterman. ➜ Authored press release and conducted in-depth research to support special faculty projects.

Together with my manager, we made up a 2-member Finance team that led donor outreach and event management, wrote and edited digital marketing materials to support it. ⏩ HIGHLIGHTS➜ Exceeded previous fundraising goals and our state’s appeal – leading to presidential candidate visits that overrode conventional wisdom dictating skipping a state with elections so late in the primary season. ➜ Grew donor rosters using research and high-touch strategies for smaller-amount contributors that accounted for a large portion of the donor pool. ➜ Developed Briefings and Finance reports used by Finance Director and Chairman for strategic decision-making. ➜ Sought after to guide spokespersons and senior officials on media engagement best practices.

I experienced first-hand the impact of advocacy at the local level – in this role supporting and advancing the strategic initiatives and agendas, projects and calendars of 3 state representatives (all at the same time)! I also credit this role with sharpening my media relations, writing and editing, and research and analysis skills – as it required me to build a network of community and media reps, field press inquiries, communicate on a wide range of issues and conduct research for diverse legislation. In fact, I’m quite proud of the research contributions I made to crafting successful legislation related to clean energy.
