I thoroughly enjoy figuring out how to put things together. When I was five, my dad spent several hours trying to fix a toilet. I snuck in and grabbed the instructions, keeping them long enough to look at the pictures. My dad kicked me out of the bathroom, but on my way out I said, “Fine, but that piece is backward!” A few minutes later my dad exited the bathroom with a triumphant flush behind him. After 20 years, I’ve come along way from back-seat toilet fixing. In my years of software engineering, I have put together some amazing products. I’ve implemented infrastructure in both Google Cloud and AWS, created and consumed real-time data streams, and architected entire cloud-based applications. I’ve gone through both PCI and SOX (yuck) audits, coming out mostly unscathed. I’ve written scripts and tools to automate setting up new developer machines and testing environments. All of this has given me experience in many technologies that I use to create robust and elegant products. When I am not working, I am spending time with my wife and four kids. They are all under 6, so I quite often become a jungle gym. I also enjoy watching ESports (mostly Starcraft 2), mountain biking, and binge-watching the Stargate series.
