Edwin Jacobs is a Partner (advocaat - avocat - attorney at law - Rechtsanwalt) at Timelex, a law firm, specialised in business law in the information society, Telecommunications, IT/IP, Media and E-business/E-government. Specialisation: business law in the information society, FinTech, privacy an data protection including GDPR compliance and big data issues, negotiation mediation, outsourcing, intellectual property rights, electronic invoicing and archiving, eIDAS, copyright, trade marks, hardware software services, IT contracts, eCommerce, payment services law, e-Money, start ups ...Edwin read law at the universities of Namur (Belgium, in French, 1991), Norwich (UK, 1993) and Leuven (Belgium, in Dutch, 1994), and studied European law at the Europa-Institut in Saarbrücken (Germany, 1995). In 2003, he obtained a postgraduate degree in company management (Bedrijfskunde, EHSAL Management School, Brussels).In 1995 he started to practice law, specialising in commercial law, intellectual property law and ICT-law. He became a company lawyer (July 2001-March 2007) and was responsible for the legal department of ISABEL, a leading service provider in e-Banking, e-Business (i.a. electronic invoicing) and e-Government. Afterwards, he was at the forefront of his practice at the TMT-IP (Technology, Media, Telecom - Intellectual Property) department of Monard-D’Hulst in Brussels. From December 2003 till September 2016, he was also an affiliated researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Law and ICT (ICRI, University of Leuven now CITIP centre for Information technology and intellectual property) and was a lecturer for the seminar on IT contracts & conflict management (since October 2009).Accredited mediator in civil and commercial matters, with focus on ICT and IP. Since October 2008, Edwin is also involved at the University of Antwerp as a lecturer for the course "negotiation and mediation".
