I got my start at JFS as a graduate student intern and by the time I earned my MSW, had secured a permanent spot with this special organization that provides services to older adults, youth, refugees, and families of all religions, races, and ethnicities. Throughout my internship and now in my full-time role, I focus my energies on events and programs that benefit individuals throughout the Ann Arbor, MI area. I see my role split into two. On one hand, I engage heavily in community outreach efforts to keep a constant finger on the pulse of our community and understand their needs. On the other hand, I am charged with planning and executing appropriate services that support our community best. Some of my proudest impacts on the organization to date include: ▶️ Serving as a key player behind the development and oversight of critical community affairs programs and events that forge community connections including Kids Care Fair, Diversity Day, an Innovations in Aging symposium, and an elderly congregate meal program. ▶️ Establishing and managing strategic partnerships with 20+ corporations, nonprofits, and local organizations such as United Way, Jewish Community Center, University of Michigan, Old National Bank, and others to deepen our organizations impact on community. ▶️ Bringing in hundreds of thousands in solicited funds from corporations, foundations, sponsors, and individual donors as well as from fundraising events including The Mosaic and Giving Tuesday. ▶️ Optimizing how our programs and events are managed in terms of planning (budgeting, committee involvement, marketing/communications) and performance analysis.

My time with Friendship Circle actually started during my childhood and played a big role in my deciding to pursue nonprofit work. For 10 years I was a volunteer before taking on an internship, which exposed me to the ins and outs of volunteer recruitment, nonprofit marketing, and programming as an undergrad. Once I earned my BA in psychology, I took on a full-time role during which I was able to make an even bigger impact on the special needs community we serve as well as the organization itself. While in this role, I managed our volunteers as well as coordinated cross-functionally to successfully execute targeted programming.I was particularly proud of my impact in the following areas: ▶️ Exposing more individuals to the organization and allowing for greater programming support via volunteer recruitment efforts that were responsible for bringing in over 75% of our roster of 120+ volunteers. ▶️ Boosting donated funds by tapping into the power of our volunteers (both current and past). We previously were not engaging our volunteers as donors and my efforts to do so resulted in significant increases to annual development activities.

For 7 years, I was involved with Tamarack Camp as a Counselor and Trip Leader. While some may not see this experience as “relevant,” my time here was truly foundational to my career. Serving in this capacity overseeing wilderness expeditions in Michigan and eventually in Alaska allowed me to develop strong leadership skills and the ability to forge relationships with people of all backgrounds in even the most unique of circumstances. Not only did I develop personally, but I was able to impact others and instill students with a sense of responsibility, empathy, cooperation, motivation, determination, and the ability to create community around themselves.
