Serving in the Knox Community School Corporation as an educational leader has allowed me to go into classrooms and assist administrators and teachers with, data analysis, classroom management, classroom engagement, differentiated instruction, rigorous instruction leading to comprehension, professional development, standard alignment, curriculum development, and any other area associated with teaching to better the instruction and increase student achievement. Through this process, I was able to work with a data analysis team to create a school improvement plan which decreased the achievement gap by 10% between free / reduced lunch students and paid lunch students along with a 5% gap reduction between special education and general education students. This allowed an overall school improvement grade from a C to a B in 1 year. Working with first year teachers, we have been able to decrease classroom management issues by 75% and decrease office referrals by 65%. My first year at Knox High School, as a teacher, I was able to increase overall participation in Physical Education Classes by 50%. As a Physical Education Department, we are able to proudly say that we have had 99% class participation the last three years in all classes of our department. Together, we were able to accomplish this by: revamping the department syllabus and curriculum, increasing expectations, setting specific individual and classroom goals, rewarding small gains, using differentiated instruction, and adaptive PE strategies, and modifying instruction to fit the needs of all students. Students in my classes overall have achieved 85% proficiency on standards based tests the past two years. I believe that I have become that “Go To” professional educator to assist the Knox High School Administration when assistance is needed.
