About Jacob Talbert

Professionally-trained collaborative discussion facilitator. Strategic and equitable advocate. Exceptional contributor to organizational effectiveness. Avid basketball lover.I attend the Indiana University Maurer School of Law, where I am involved with the Sports & Entertainment Law Society, as well as the Labor & Employment Law Society. I graduated with a B.A. in Rhetoric from Wabash College, where I was inducted into Lambda Pi Eta, the academic honors society of the National Communication Association. I served my undergraduate institution as Student Life Committee Chair of the Student Senate's exec board, and as a Fellow of Wabash Democracy & Public Discourse. My mission is to apply my law school education and my proficiency with collaborative communication towards serving as a well-rounded, productive professional in both the legal field and the sports industry. Beyond being inspired by my upbringing in the state of Indiana—where the sport of basketball is more lifestyle than pastime among the communities of the Hoosier State—I am compelled by the profound impact that sports continue to have on a diverse, global scale. Sports are conduits for community-building that spark the coalition of a broad variety of people, cultures, ideas, and skillsets. My experiences as an outcome-driven deliberator and interdisciplinary problem solver qualify me as a valuable candidate to serve organizations that prioritize the empowerment of others—both in the world of sports and the world at large.

Fellow, Wabash Democracy & Public Discourse (Wdpd)

Crawfordsville, Indiana, United States

WDPD is a nonprofit civic engagement fellowship whose mission is to engage its community partners in the practice of deliberative discourse. WDPD promotes the deliberation model of discussion in the interest of fostering a collaborative and equitable decision-making process among the groups, coalitions, and organizations for which it serves. My chief responsibilities as a Fellow were to draft event discussion guides with my project teams, as well as fulfill the roles of facilitator and/or notetaker depending on the positional needs of a given deliberation. As a facilitator, I ran discussion groups by posing thought-provoking questions to participants; ensuring that all voices felt empowered to be heard and shared; and encouraging good-faith, strategic evaluation of collective action problems. As a notetaker, I transcribed participants' dialogue to be used as qualitative data in post-event memoranda. For more information about the WDPD initiative, visit www.wabash.edu/wabashx/democracy
