Participated in a project researching primary cilia and how Kif9 molecular motors and the knockdown of these motors affected the growth of primary cilia. Kept lab notebook and conducted independent experiments including fixing cells, utilizing primary and secondary immunofluorescence, splitting cells, media creation, and the use of siRNAs. Gained firsthand experience in designing experiments.

As part of the Research in Biological Sciences (RIBS) program, spent four weeks learning the intricacies of a lab. First two weeks were spent learning how a lab operates through activities like cell culturing, fluorescent microscopy and using RNAi on C. Elegans to test their osmotic stress. Last two weeks were spent participating in group of four to create a novel bioreporter using aptamers in genetically modified E. Coli.

Learned about cinematography and use of Adobe Creative Suite, assisted with professional video shoots and worked on subtitling videos. For final project, created an original documentary on ocean pollution and conservation focused on prevalent use of plastics in our society, how plastic waste ends up in the ocean, its effect on marine life, and how society can reduce plastic waste. Interviewed several commercial and non-profit organizations on how plastics are reduced and recycled.
