I have, for the last 25 years, been actively involved in the Shipping and Logistics industry besides other entrepreneurial pursuits in Real Estate, Commercial Forestry, Media, and eCommerce. I am also the Africa Regional Director for the Transformational Business Network - a global movement of impact investors and entrepreneurs who are using business to transform lives. For the last 15 years, The Transformational Business Network has leveraged its 2000+ strong member network across 7 countries to scale the capacity of early-stage entrepreneurs and provide access to impact investment capital. Since then, it has grown into an international movement and leveraged its network to create over 15,000 jobs. 2000+ entrepreneurs have been supported to scale their businesses and more than USD 400M has been unlocked in investment. As an ardent Africa enthusiast, I’ve always asserted that the private sector, not government, is best placed to tackle the behemoth of poverty. For the last 12 years, I have also served on the board of Hiinga Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit and faith-driven Africa-focused impact investing fund.

Regional Director - AfricaTransformational Business Network Jan 2018 - PresentNairobi, KenyaAt the start of 2018, having served as a board member for three years, I committed to actively get involved with The Transformational Business Network, a global movement of impact investors and entrepreneurs.TBN Africa has, since 2017, supported 694 early-stage entrepreneurs. Our interventions have helped the businesses create 5540 jobs, increase their aggregate revenues by USD 6.9M, and access over USD 20M of much needed debt, equity and mezzanine capital.Forty-nine percent of the total number of the enterprises we support are women-owned. This has been a deliberate effort on our part as we continue to be champions of women-owned and led businesses. And in Africa, which has the highest percentage of women entrepreneurs in the world, women reinvest up to 90 percent of their income in the education, health and nutrition of their families, and wider community. (Men only re- invest 40 percent).Helping these women-owned businesses to grow and scale by way of training, mentoring and providing access to capital and markets is therefore not just the right thing to do. It is, in fact, the profitable thing to do as borne by our own learnings and data: The Women-owned and led businesses in our fold created 4 percent more full-time jobs and contributed 55% of the total finance mobilized in 2023.In recognition of this, the African Development Bank, through its flagship program, AFAWA (Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa), retained TBN Africa to support 100 women-owned businesses in East Africa. AFAWA is a pan-African initiative to bridge the $42 billion financing gap facing women entrepreneurs in Africa. At the current snail pace, the World Economic Forum estimates a timeframe of 267.6 years for women to achieve economic parity. -
