The Primary Counselor is responsible for coordinating a resident’s care, by completing the individual treatment plan, functional assessment, LOCUS, interpretive summary, treatment reviews, and weekly 1:1 counseling sessions. Leads the treatment team’s clinical direction with collaboration from the Clinical Supervisor and Unit Director. The primary counselor shares responsibility for treatment and psycho-educational groups. Oversee and facilitate treatment and educational groups, groups will include but are not limited to topics such as IM&R, IDDT, Family Psycho-education, DBT, CBT, Boundaries and Relationships, and Living Skills. Coordinate with resident’s case manager and make referrals for needed services in order that each resident may function to the best of their ability. Utilize verbal and non-verbal intervention techniques with residents experiencing behavioral crisis. Utilize non-violent physical intervention techniques with residents who are physically harming themselves or others. Educate clients about mental health issues, their medications, mental health symptoms and coping skills. Provide evidence based programming to residents through groups and individual work. This includes Illness Management and Recovery, Integrated Dual Diagnosis programming and Family Education.
