I teach English to adult migrants and refugees and I love it. I have mostly taught in the AMEP (Adult Migrant English Program) teaching students at all levels. I have experience teaching the Certificate in Spoken and Written English (CSWE) and also English as an Additional Language (EAL). I am also an experienced SLPET teacher, preparing learners for the Australian workplace. I have also been a tutor trainer and did a stint developing online resources for the volunteer tutor program.I began my working life as a primary school teacher but I decided to become a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) teacher after my very positive experience as a volunteer English tutor with AMES Australia. I find teaching migrants and refugees to be a very rewarding job. The students are so motivated to learn and classes are interesting and fun with people from all corners of the globe. It's been a great way to learn about the cultures of the world.In my current role at Box Hill Institute (CAE), I have the opportunity to work with amazing people with equally amazing lives and experiences. I love it when I see learners gaining confidence and improving their English day to day. I also love it when past students contact me to let me know that they have landed their first job in Australia or joined TAFE or University on their pathway to employment.
