Profile bio

About Jacqueline Zambrano

My name is Jackie, I am a currently a Science Transformation coach. I am passionate about using my skill set to empower others to live better lives. Right now, that looks like using my position to innovate and improve science experiences for teachers and students. As a transformation coach, I work with my teachers to build a strong department culture. My philosophy is people first. I lead alongside my teachers and support their development through classroom observations and co-teaching. Despite being first year teachers, they have grown rapidly in their development and instruction has improved. Students are now engaging in hands on activities and labs that are not only rigorous but also engaging. They are encouraged to have scientific discourse so they can speak to the “why” of scientific phenomena. There is a strong culture among students that is only made stronger through the addition of biology peer tutors. Peer tutors are recruited and interviewed to ensure a good fit. They must demonstrate mastery of biology topics as well as a good work ethic. They work with their struggling peers and are able to increase student feedback, promoting a collective growth mindset. I have also spent the last 5 summers developing first year science teachers for both Teach for America and Teach Strong. In 2018, 2019, and 2020 I worked as a teacher coach and content specialist for teach for America. I coached teachers around mindsets and science pedagogy and helped them bridge the gap between theory and practice. I also worked with first year science teachers summer of 2021 and actually trained a first year teacher who currently teaches at my school. He is a strong teacher who uses culturally relevant pedagogy to teach biology. My experiences above reflect not only my dedication to science instruction but also teachers and students.
