I recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a double major in Political Economics and Chinese, and a minor in French. My career interests focus on sustainable and equitable development, policy reform, and enhancing international relations. Having studied in five countries, I am conversationally fluent in English, French, German, Spanish, and Mandarin. I leverage my language skills as a Board Member for the United Nations Association (UNA), where I organize and promote events, including the Global Engagement Summit, to advance the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, during my internship with UNCTAD’s Sustainable Stock Exchange, I built capacity for sustainable, equitable, and transparent capital markets. My work focused on analyzing metrics to deter gender-washing and promote gender equity in markets. I am eager to continue developing my skills through a technical, policy-driven approach to socio-economic change.I am open to new opportunities and can be reached at jgarrity24@berkeley.edu.

Unctad - Sustainable Stock Exchange Initiative Research InternUnited Nations Conference On Trade And Development - Sustainable Stock Exchange Initiative May 2023 - May 2024In May of 2023, I began my internship with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development’s Sustainable Stock Exchange (SSE). One of my roles as an SSE intern was to assist with virtual events hosted by the SSE Academy, organized in partnership with regional stock exchanges and other sustainable educational organizations such as the United Nations Environment Program. My advisor, Tiffany Grabski, presented the difference between transition risks vs physical risks for investors, for example, while I responded to questions and guided participation via a chat box. Additionally, I aided in the translation of messages sent to attendees for the stock exchange in Brazil and Spanish-speaking countries. After each event, I also analyzed data and shared my findings. Presently, I am working on a research project that involves analyzing 70 stock exchanges’ Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) publications in light of gender equality. I am excited to share more about this project in the coming months.
