Having really enjoyed working in an engineering company for over 25 years, I have seen first hand the benefits of a good education and its relevance to industry. I have committed to leaving the corporate world and put something back into society, and for me that is through teaching. We live in a knowledge-based global economy, we need people who can think as much as people who can do, and education is the route. Imparting knowledge and helping formulate young minds is a huge responsibility, with a chance to create future leaders and workers. It is important to help a student understand the whole point of it - geography is the key to so much in the world around us and understanding the interrelationship between physical systems, human processes, societies, lifecycles, weather systems, global interdependence and more is fascinating and important for our future.I believe motivation is key to good learning, and there is a challenge to engender that motivation in students, as well as helping them to understand the relevance of education to life in general.
