Obtain correct demographic and insurance information from patients that came in the ER. Also, collected copays from patients. Verify insurance coverage and benefits via phone and online, initiate precertification for inpatient, observation hospital admissions and surgical procedures, work daily reports to verify that all precertifications were started, follow up on pending authorizations, assist nursing staff with problems that occur with authorizations, notify the financial department of any policies termed or with limited coverage, and communicate with patients for follow up with any issues regarding their insurance. Started referrals and pre-determinations on surgical cases when needed. Trained on out of network/out of state cases and started single case agreements on cases to obtain coverage for patients to be able to have the surgery covered. Cross trained in customer service to schedule patient’s appointments and register them. Called patients to obtain current demographic and insurance information. Obtained copays prior to procedures and processed payments. Made outbound and took inbound calls from patients to obtain correct information and collect copays and estimates for their procedures. Also, worked as a registrar trainer by teaching all new hires how to register patients and add insurance to the electronic medical records. Created a training manual along with rules for all incoming registrars for them to be able to reference for their records.
