About Jacqueline (Jacqui) Holmes

1. Make personal investments in positive impact companies and social enterprises, serving on Boards and adding value to management teams.2. Simultaneously:Founded Midori Management in 2001. $3billion+ AUM, exclusively from the 2 families I founded the firm to manage capital for; we have discretion over this capital and do not accept any outside capital/additional clients. Principal investor into: Hedge Funds; Private Equity/Debt/Tangible Asset Direct Deals; Public Securities. We invest in hedge funds as an LP, in a variety of strategies. Funds range in asset size; we are rarely "day one" money. On the private side, the majority of our capital invested, we invest directly into deals, primarily those we source ourselves. (Occasional investment as an LP into a p eq fund, with a manager who has shared several valuable coinvestments.) We seek deals with exceptional risk/return profiles, and invest broadly and globally across industries, sectors, geographic regions, stages and structures. With public securities (proprietary trading), we are opportunistic with a mixture of long term holdings and short term trading of market movement, using equity, debt, FX & other derivatives. We seek arbitrage opportunities and trade volatility, and also invest based on macro themes/theses.With personal capital, I seek investments that are highly compelling on their financial risk/return investment merits, and which are also mission-aligned with my personal values of positive social/environmental impact. Deep familiarity with CPG, F&B, health & wellness, med-tech, consumer tech, other products/retail, fin-tech, online marketplaces, enterprise SAAS, agriculture & supply chain/food processing (especially regenerative/sustainable), smart cities, display technology, large distressed tangible assets, & operating globally from early stage-growth-buyout-distressed. NYC; Lisbon; LatAm; Japan/Taiwan. DUE TO NEW REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS, MM MAY BE UNDERGOING STRUCTURAL CHANGE.

Example areas ongoing / to be expanded.....1. I believe cacao is at an important moment of change. Right now we are seeing increasing demand; new technology/knowledge in genetics/agronomy/processing best practices; climate change; and smallholder generational and economic transitions. After much time from the field to the shelf with cacao & chocolate, I believe I can make impactful choices & add value in this area of food/agriculture change. I believe we need a variety of models & approaches, and I have values-based preferences (ie for agroforestry combined with best practices/science based knowledge, cultural/ecological preservation, continued smallholder ownership with better outcomes even as plantation ownership grows) centered around positive impact (vs "less bad" choices), which I believe can support sustainable positive financial return. I seek a holistic approach to goals including exceptional quality/flavor; increased yield for increased smallholder income; genetic & bio diversity; carbon sink; empowerment for indigenous ppl; etc2. I've seen the need for new/varied forms of financing, especially for smaller positive impact brands/companies (structures not entirely predicated on a sale to a larger corporate, but not preventing that), especially for inventory & ultimately also for infrastructure and operating costs. These companies are often the ones to bring smallholder and/or positive impact goods to market, a vital and difficult part of the supply chain. I created a structure for Inventory Financing and I have both financed other brands/companies and received financing for Kopali; I have learned a lot doing so, with lots of positive experiences and some challenges that offered learning. I envision refining this model to scale & expand while I develop more models, to meet needs/gaps in the market.

Enjoying the opportunity to combine my investing/operating experience with my passion for positive social and environmental impact. Have personally invested in a good number of positive impact businesses, with varying levels of involvement (and varying outcomes, from extraordinary growth & industry-leading financial exits, to disappointing losses.... always with deep learning). In the case of Kopali, I invested early, and now I own & am ”pausing-now-to-grow-later” this meaningful brand with intense consumer love, that has demonstrated fast growing distribution and extremely strong product sell-through on the shelf in a wide variety of valuable channels, with strong margins & profitability - and that has, at other times, operated as challenged and distressed (under $5m sales). We’ll see what the coming years may have in store .... ;)Kopali - incredibly luscious, perfectly rich, pure and healthful dark chocolates crafted entirely at the point-of-origin, in Peru, Ecuador, Dominican Republic. Certified organic and fair trade, Kopali Chocolates are every bit as important as they are delicious. Motivated by a deep purpose and guided by a clear strategy, Kopali’s chocolate sweetness has already managed to reach, delight and inspire millions of fans, while helping to support thousands of farmers who in turn care for ecosystems that support all life.

The experiences and challenges of investing, helping to hands-on build and grow Kopali, and then of later stepping in to fully operate the company during distress, were humbling and provided life-changing personal and career growth and depth. These experiences involved a % of time and energy and emotion, highly out of proportion to the financial “value” of Kopali within my life and financial portfolio. Silver-lining fact: these were also incredibly valuable for me in building extraordinary customer/supplier/partner/peer relationships, and deep knowledge, which led me on the path and prepared me to make and contribute to a number of other investments in CPG, and throughout the coffee/cacao/chocolate supply chain, with strong financial success. They also made me a more compassionate investor-partner to management teams, and a better operator overall. And with Kopali, I am proud of a project that touched and supported family and community livelihoods, and supported organizational and equipment capacity , and developed personal relationships, working with many thousands of farmers and local producers and manufacturers in several countries of Latin America ..... growing food on living soil with agroforestry and sustainable organic agriculture and community cooperative owned processing ..... sharing that message while delighting Kopali consumers/eaters with the resulting pure and healthful rich dark chocolate of extraordinary quality, connected to its origin and grown/crafted in a positive impact way......hopefully impacting the choices of those consumers and their awareness of the power we all have when we “vote with our dollars”.💕 Grateful.
